I was first introduced to Verbal Judo in the academy. Because I left wonder why on a lot of of the course, I didn't use it. You put it into perspective for me. I am looking forward to returning to work and not only using it, but introducing it to the people I work with.

Hey Mike,

Had your Verbal Judo on Wednesday. I attempted to use the 8 point vehicle stop last night. It was all fine, until the subject started rambling in Spanish; in that he didn't speak English.

I felt I became a better cop by attending the class. Overall I believe all law enforcement can benefit from the class. I will continue to apply the techniques learned, and those techniques give me more confidence on the street.

Having worked on psychiatric units (involuntary units as well as voluntary) and in prisons, I'm aware of the importance of remaining calm when dealing with emotional situations. I came to the training with an open mind hoping to learn some new ideas or reinforce the ones I already had, and I wasn't disappointed. (love the "showtime" phrase)
I believe that all case managers and supervisors and especially the assessment nurses would benefit greatly from taking this training!!!

I just went through Mr. Manley's Train the Trainer course for Verbal Judo and was extremely impressed. I expected a lot out of the course when I volunteered for it and got more than I expected. The amount of information presented was overwhelming but somehow sunk in. The way the informatation was presented (p/s/p) was critical in getting across all of this info in a timely manner. I only hope that with some practice I can become close to as effective as Mr. Manley in doing so. I feel as though I have a new look on things and am armed with more tactics than ever before.

I attended your 1 day course in Puyallup WA on October 2nd 2007. I wish that the 2 day had been available. Many of the concepts are parallel to those I have been teaching as part of our DT curriculum, and I hope to get more LPD officers through your curriculum. Verbal Judo is both a compelling curriculum and wonderful presentation. I wish to commend Detective James Shanahan, Chief Instructor of the Police Academy of New York City who recently joined our adjunct faculty. He is an exceptional teacher. On several occasions I have seen his presentation for the Emergency Services and Hostage Negotiations Units here at the college. It is magnificent. His use of the material can be provocative, strong and very compelling. Yet, his use of humor, asides, anecdotes and metaphors is exceptional. At times there wasn't a dry eye in the room. In a world of "typical" boring In-Service police training, Shanahan sensei is an original. I want to take this time to highly RECOMMEND the Verbal Judo program and one of its most talented instructors, James Shanahan.

I did not know what to expect going into this class. I have been in the Gaming industry for over 12 years and could have used this course several years ago. The techniques and the class itself seem overwhelming at first, but Mike did a great job at making everybody comfortable. I would highly recommend this course to anyone in a profession dealing with people.

Recently my organization had Mike come to our property to teach the Verbal Judo Instructor class. This class was impactful, to say the least. It made all of us that are in the field of security and other areas open our eyes even wider to see what we have been missing when communicating with our contacts.
